To My Crying Sister (Bilingual in Chinese and English)
brief introduction
Life had never been more complicated for this 8-year-old boy before his sister was born. After his sister was born, his parents asked him to write cards and letters to his sister, sometimes with drawings, to put in his sister's baby album. The boy then recorded his life truthfully and humorously, including his frustration with his newborn sister's constant crying, having to read the same book to her 763 times, his sister poking his eyes and pulling his hair, and the lack of personal space. The occasional apology letters in the letters revealed his parents' lack of understanding of his situation. However, over the course of 10 years, his letters to his sister gradually reflected his cherishment of her. When his best friend Joey moved away, only his sister, the little girl who had always adored him, understood his pain. As their feelings grew, they became more and more concerned about each other. Author Alison McGee created a warm and humorous story about two children getting along based on her own family upbringing. Illustrator Joe Bloom added childlike sketches to the drawings in the boy's letters and also added moving illustrations to the storyline.
