in principle

Ray Dalio is one of the world's top investors and entrepreneurs, and the founder of the hedge fund company Bridgewater. Since its establishment, Bridgewater has earned far more income for clients than any hedge fund in history. Dalio believes that Bridgewater's success stems from a set of principles he has embraced, and these principles are also the most important things he has learned in his life.

Dalio believes that we can view life, management, business and investment like machines, and systematize them into a series of principles. This book articulates the two cornerstones of his principles—extreme truth and extreme transparency—and introduces idea meritocracy based on them, as well as a decision-making mechanism based on credibility evaluation. More than 500 principles in the book will help us keep an open mind, see the reality clearly, evaluate ourselves and others correctly, calmly face problems such as making decisions and building a strong team, further understand ourselves, and achieve continuous growth.

原则Before I start telling you what I think, I want to say that I am a "fool" and that I don't really know as much as I need to know. No matter how much success I have achieved in life, it has not been primarily because of how many things I know, but because I have known what to do when I don't know. The most important thing I've learned in my life is a principles-based way of life that helps me discover what the truth is and how to act accordingly.

The reason I'm sharing these principles now is that at this point in my life, I'm more concerned with helping others to be successful than I am with being more successful myself. Because these principles have served me and others so well, I want to share them with you. How much these principles are worth, and what you will do with them, is for you to decide.

Principles are fundamental truths that form the basis for actions that allow you to achieve what you want in life. Principles can be repeatedly applied to similar situations to help you achieve your goals.

Every day, each of us faces a barrage of situations to which we must respond. Without principles, we would be forced to react in isolation to the unpredictable events of life as if we were experiencing them for the first time. But if we divide these situations into different types, and have good principles for dealing with different types of situations, we can make better decisions faster and live better lives because of it. With a good set of principles, you have a set of recipes for success. All successful people act on principles that have helped them to be successful, but what they choose to be successful varies from person to person, so their principles vary from person to person.

Being a principled person means always doing things according to principles that can be clearly explained. But unfortunately, most of them don't explain their principles clearly. It's a pity that people rarely write down their principles and share them with others. I'd love to know what the principles of Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, Winston Churchill, Leonardo da Vinci, etc. were, so I could figure out what they were after What were the goals, how did they achieve them, and a comparison of their different approaches. I want to know what, in their view, are the important principles of the politicians who want me to vote for them, and of all those whose decisions affect me. Are we friends with common principles that bind us together in families, communities, nations, and across borders? Or are our principles opposed to one another and have divided us? What are these principles? We should be specific about our principles. It is extremely important for us these days to get our principles right.

My hope is that reading this book will prompt you to discover your own principles and write them down as you see fit. Doing so will give you a clear sense of your principles and a better understanding of each other. This way, you can refine and reflect on your principles as you encounter more situations, which will help you make better decisions and allow others to understand you better.
